Description:

Located on the seafront in the center of Almeria, EGO Sport Center is the result of a revitalization and recycling project of the old sports complex Ismael Moratón. Based on the analysis and valuation of buildings and unused land that made the block, the action decided to demolish obsolete buildings on the perimeter and keep the pool facilities built to host the Mediterranean Games 2005. Instead, on Cabo de Gata Avenue and Angel Jover Street two buildings are designed forming in “L” with two floors housing the new sports center and other ancillary commercial operations.

A cantilever body at the corner marks the entrance of the building which leads to the main hall bathed in skylight that communicates with each of the interior rooms and the building´s roof. It is designed as a panoramic terrace where the paddle sports and other sports courts are located.

The exterior enclosure of the building is resolved by modular horizontal panels of prefabricated concrete arranged as a randomized checkerboard that provide solar and thermal protection while framed views over the sea and city landmarks like The Mineral Loading área.
